Trump Continues to Improve while Pence Continues to Drop; Biden Open to Running; Oprah’s Odds up Despite Continued Denials of a Run

The recent trend of Donald Trump’s Odds improving while his VPs worsening continued this week.

The payout for Donald Trump winning once again dropped from 3.04X to 3.03X.  These are now the best odds he has had the past 30 weeks (since end of July).

Mike Pence’s odds on the other hand have been diving the past three weeks.  He came in at a payout of 13.1X from last week’s 12.5X and 10.8X four weeks ago.  This was enough to drop him 2nd place two weeks ago to 3rd last week to 4th this week as both Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris passed him by.

Joe Biden told a private gathering he’s open to running in 2020. That caused his payout to drop from last week’s 21.0X to this week’s 20.3X.  These are his best odds of the cycle.  He remains in 6th place.

Oprah had an interview on 60 Minutes Overtime  where she once again denied running.  The interview, however,  refueled speculation of a run. Her payout dropped from 28.4X to 25.2X as she moved from 12th place to 8th place, the highest she has been in four weeks. She was in second place for two weeks immediately following the Golden Globes.

Pence’s Odds Drop as Trump’s Improve; Sanders Sees Big Jump; Castro Announces Interest in Running

For the second straight week, Mike Pence’s odds dropped.  This time the payout went from 12.0X to 12.5X.  That was another new low for the VP.  The change in odds was enough to drop him behind Elizabeth Warren and into 3rd place.

Pence’s drop once again helped Donald Trump.  His odds improved for the third week in a row as his payout moved from 3.06X to 3.04X, his best odds since 7/22.  His odds are now more than 4 times better than his next competitor: Elizabeth Warren.

Bernie Sanders had a big improvement in odds.  His payout moved from 16.3X to 14.7X.  That was not enough for him to move from his 5th place spot.  His recent activity on social media has many speculating on a run.

Julian Castro stated “I have every interest in running” for president, to NBC News.  Interestingly, he saw a drop in odds from a payout of 42.5X to 44.5X.  That was enough for him to slide from 18th place to 24th place.

Trump’s Odds Climb on State of Union Speech; Joe Kennedy Rises on Response; Pence Drops on Rumor; Newsom Continues Hot Streak

Donald Trump’s Odds saw a significant increase in his odds, likely a result of his State of the Union address.  His payout dropped from last week’s 3.28X to this week’s 3.06X. These are the best odds he has had since 7/22 when it was 3.03X. His best odds this cycle were on 1/7  when he was at 2.41X.

Joseph Kennedy III delivered the Democratic response to Trump, and that increased his profile.  He was “introduced” to a more mainstream audience through many media outlets prior to and after the speech including this article from Cosmo. In two weeks he has gone from 20th place and a payout of 47X to the current 14th place and 31.3X

Mike Pence’s odds took a big hit as his payout increased from 10.8X to 12.0X. These are the worst odds he has had since the election. This was perhaps the result of a fake rumor that he will not be running as Trump’s VP in 2020. He remains second overall, as the presumed Republican choice should Trump not make it through his term or choose not to run in 2020.

Gavin Newsom remained the hottest candidate.  The Lt. Governor of CA , has announced he will be running for Governor.  There is a lot of buzz about him seeking a higher office, perhaps spread by his opponents for CA Governor.  His odds have improved this week to  24.3X from 25.3X last week, moving him from 9th place overall to 8th place.  He has seen his odds improve in 8 of the last 9 weeks.  He was in 22nd place at 50.8X before the hot streak began.
