Updated Weekly Odds: Stability at the Top, Cruz up on Rumored Announcement, Jindal Down on Fiscal Problems

There wasn’t a lot of change at the top this week as the #1-#9 candidates remained the same.  Hillary Clinton continues to lead at at 38.6%, down slightly from 38.8% the prior week.

Jeb Bush continues to be the top challenger at 11.4%.  He has been in second since November 2014.

Marco Rubio holds on to third at 4.4%.  He is trying to hold Scott Walker.  Walker had been the hottest candidate, but he may have plateaued at 4.1%.  This was the first week where he did not show an improvement in the last 9 weeks.

The biggest mover was Ted Cruz who is rumored to announce he is running on Monday.  He moves from 15th place up to 10th place but still only at 1.3%.

On the downside, Bobby Jindal moved from 12th to 15th as he attempts to overcome Louisiana’s fiscal challenge without raising taxes.

Updated Weekly Odds: Small Dip for Clinton, Bush Plateaus, Walker Continues Rise

Hillary Clinton had a small dip moving from 39.3% to 38.8%. She still has higher odds than the next 14 candidates COMBINED.  So far she has weathered the email controversy fairly well.

Jeb Bush seems to have plateaued as he has been in the 11.4% to 11.6% range the last 5 weeks.  Prior to that he had risen steadily from below 5% in November to 10% at the start of February. Bush just made his New Hampshire debut.

The hottest candidate continues to be Scott Walker.  He moves up once again from 3.9% to 4.1%.  He has now improved for 8 straight weeks and is very close to topping the third place candidate Marco Rubio (4.4%).  He is even winning some endorsements that many thought would go to Bush.

For the Democrats, there are very few “top tier” candidates that are stepping up to take Clinton head on.  One of the few seems to be Martin O’malley.  He moved up from 15th place to 11th place as he took a jab at Clinton earlier in the week.

The lack of competition for Clinton has many calling for alternative candidates.  One of those “encouraged” to run in a slate magazine article is Deval Patrick.  He had a slight increase from 24th place to 22nd place.  He maintains he will not be running and peaked near the end of last year at 18th place.

Updated Weekly Odds: Clinton, Gillibrand, Webb up. O’Malley, Christie, Romney down

In a surprise and a reversal of the recent trend, Hillary Clinton’s odds increased from 37.7% to 39.3%.  This changes the slow decline that started in  December where Clinton was at 40.5%.  This change in fortune is counter-intuitive with the “e-mail scandal” in the news this past week.  Perhaps it reminds people of the Clinton Presidency.

The Democratic jockying for the challenger to Clinton continued to heat up.  Two candidates that showed some big moves were Kirsten Gillibrand and Jim Webb.

Gillibrand moved up from 14th to 11th place, which is the highest she has been.  She has been steadily moving up since making her debut at 54th place in August.    She is in 5th place for the Democrats.

Webb is seen as a man with little to lose, posing a threat to Clinton.  He moves up from 22nd  place to 18th, and was as low as 48th in late January.  He is in 8th place for the Democrats.

One falling Democrat is Martin O’Malley. He drops from 11th overall to 15th  after failing to get any votes in a recent Iowa Poll.  This is the lowest he has been since I started tracking in May 2014.

On the Republican side, Chris Christie dropped from 5th to 6th swapping positions with Rand Paul.  Just a month ago, Christie was in 4th and held that position since August.  He has since been passed by both Paul and Scott Walker.

People betting on Romney seem to be finally coming to the realization that he will not change his mind.  He drops from 8th to 9th.  He was in 5th place just 6 weeks ago.
