Donald Trump’s odds lowest in a month; Could Klobuchar’s calm Midwestern style be her advantage? Jeff Flake wants someone in GOP to challenge Trump; Billionaire Tom Steyer looking more like a candidate

For the second week in a row, Donald Trump’s odds dropped slightly this time from 2.49X to 2.53X.  These are the lowest odds he has had in 5 weeks but well above his average for the cycle of of 2.86X.

Amy Klobuchar  has seen her odds improve in the past few weeks.  She was at 54.4X at in 16th place just four weeks ago.  She has steadily improved since and comes in at 37.9X and in 12th place.  Many think her calm Midwestern style makes her standout from other 2020 candidates.

Jeff Flake announced that he doesn’t think that he will be a 2020 challenger to Trump but believes that somebody from the GOP should challenge him.  His odds improved from 129.9X to 117.3X.  That was enough to jump him from 70th place to 58th place.

One of the most vocal opponents of Trump has been billionaire Tom Steyer.  His ad buys and scheduled townhalls have many thinking he will be running. His odds jumped up from 93.8X to 81.8X, moving him up from 40th place to 31st place.

Trump sees small dip in odds; Democrats split on whether Clinton should run again; Sherrod Brown’s post election momentum continues; Julian Castro not wasting any timing in courting donors and staff

Donald Trump’s Odds dipped slightly this past week from 2.43X to 2.49X.  That is in line with his average over the last three months of 2.50X.  He remains more than three times as likely to get elected as his next closest competitor.

A former Hillary Clinton adviser wrote a WSJ op-ed that Clinton will run again in 2020.  That possibility seems to have split Democrats, as pleads for her not to run also sprung up. The mere possibility of another run did help her odds jump from 58.8X to 51.9X .  This moved her from 18th place to 15th.  This is the highest position she’s been in since late January.

We mentioned last week the big winner coming out of the election (aside from O’Rourke’s crazy jump in odds following his loss) appeared to be OH Senator Sherrod Brown.  His hot streak continued as his odds improved once again from 54.7X to 43.5X.  He is now in 13th place overall, and his betting odds are the highest they’ve been since September ’17.

Julian Castro is wasting no time in his preparations for a 2020 run, as he began courting both donors and staff. His odds jumped from 84.3X to 71.7X moving him from 30th place to 23rd, his highest since August.

Trump’s Odds Improve Despite Gains for the Democrats on Election Night; Sherrod Brown the Big Winner on Election Night and in the Odds; Beto’s Odds Skyrocket Despite Defeat while Warren’s Drop After her Reelection

There were many changes in the odds post the midterm elections.

Despite the Democratic gains in the House and many thinking the elections were more about Trump than the Republicans,  Donald Trump’s odds still improved from the prior week.  His odds rose from 2.50X to 2.43X.  That is the 3rd straight week of gains and his highest odds in 11 weeks.

Perhaps the biggest winner on Tuesday night was Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown.  The swing from Trump’s Ohio victory to Brown’s victory this year was an impressive 14.5%. His odds jumped from 78.9X to 54.7X and he moved from 33rd place to 15th place.

Elizabeth Warren’s odds dropped dramatically from 11.5X to 14.1X.  These are her worst odds in 15 weeks.  Warren won reelection to her second term rather easily and said it’s too early to decide about 2020.

Beto ORourke lost his Senate race to Ted Cruz on Tuesday but his odds skyrocketed from 21.4X to 11.2X.  That was enough to lift him to third place overall behind just Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.  His closer than expected loss on Tuesday fueled optimism from his admirers that he will run.
